AfroPortals Activation: “Gangsta’s in Wonderland” Photo Exhibition

Join us July 20 at AfroPortals for a Photography Exhibition by our very own Marcella Sanchez and Ietef Vita, Gangstas in Wonderland. Come early for a sound bath activation happening in the gold portal from 2-3pm and stay with us for Gangstas in Wonderland at 3pm. Come through and tell a friend!

“These images capture the awe I find in nature. They were taken in Joshua Tree State Park and the Avenue of the Giants, 700 miles apart from each other. In these two places, I experience how light holds a mood or emotion. In the silence of natural places, I connect to my own story of transracial adoption and chosen family.”

Ietef Vita presents “Gangsta Gardens: from one OG to Another”

“These photographs celebrate Ron Finley’s Guerilla Garden in South Central Los Angeles, land I have cultivated in Denver, Colorado, and images from my some of my foraging journeys linking one hood to another. They span from the wild, wild West to South Central to inspire Niggas to ‘Sprout that Life’.”

FRONTLINE PROPHET: JAMES BALDWIN IN DETROIT

This August, Frontline Prophet: James Baldwin makes it’s way to the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American in Detroit. Frontline Prophet: James Baldwin, is a traveling exhibition that features the artwork of Detroit-based creative Sabrina Nelson. In honor and celebration of his centennial birthday, Nelson provides an intimate, multi-sensory experience of James Baldwin and his legacy. The exhibition consists of unique works birthed from Nelson’s meditation on James Baldwin, and a 91-day commitment to draw his essence from her memory. With a deeply personal perspective on the iconic writer, she presents a seven-year sketchbook study, vivid works on paper and canvas, projected video, installations, collaborations with contemporary writers and thinkers, and augmented reality experiences.
