I'm fully welcoming you to autumn Beloveds!

This time of year is about gathering up and pulling close the opportunities and people that have brought you nourishment in preparation for the feast. Carefully assess and invite what is best for you as the year winds down and the generosity of your garden can be enjoyed.

On that note, I’m sending this newsletter greeting from Venice, Italy where I am participating in the “Loophole of Retreat” three-day gathering centered on Black women’s intellectual and creative labor curated by artist Simone Leigh and curator Rashida Bumbray at the Venice Biennale. Im honored to be here with hundreds of Black feminist thinkers/makers/academics and artists who are committed to witnessing, honoring and offering the full spectrum of our humanity and creative practice, and excited to see what impact my time here will have on my own art-work.

10/9 Official Unveiling of “Place is the Space”

Sunday October 9th from 12-5pm

Place Is the Space is a mural by artist Christopher Burch created in collaboration with Artist As First Responder with support from The Space Program SF. Installed in August 2022, the mural is a visual conversation regarding culture, beauty, displacement and privilege in the Dogpatch by The Space Program’s inaugural muralist in residence.

The mural will be unveiled as part of an open house for The Space Program San Francisco on October 9th.

Join Us 10/26 for “The Image Unbound: Photography and Film As A Love Practice”

Wednesday October 26th 6-7:30pm PST

Illustrated records of Black life through film and photography continue to be cherished ephemera as they bear witness to the beauty and stamina of a people throughout multiple generations and political realities.

Listen to four artists from Collective Arising who are utilizing film mediums in the lineage of creating archives that center the Black experience and their reflections on the camera and love.

Join Adrian Octavius Walker, Sasha Kelley, shah noor hussein, and Erica Deeman in conversation with curator Ashara Ekundayo on Zoom.

Thank You For Participating In “on protocol & performance at another end of the world” x SALT to CATCH GHOSTS

On 9/21 we gathered for an experiential convening and community altar build facilitated by Courtney Desiree Morris, brontë velez and Mattie Loyce.

The evening was consisted of an artist talk relating the ecological realities of our present times with the urgency of arts practices, a screening of the film CAN I GET A WITNESS, and a series of site-specific ceremonial offerings to all participants.

SALT to CATCH GHOSTS is an exhibition curated by Ashara Ekundayo and is on view at /(slash) through December 17, 2022.
