Comrade become Ancestor Greg Morozumi, cofounder of EastSide Arts Alliance
A Candle for Greg Morozumi
A warrior for peace, a freedom fighter — Brother Greg Morozumi’s contributions to the well-being of our extended Asian, Black, and Brown communities have been unique, steadfast, and deeply felt for over 40 years. As cofounder of EastSide Arts Alliance, Greg nurtured spaces for art, organizing, and cultural resistance that continue to shape Oakland’s spirit of liberation. His vision and commitment to justice have created pathways for so many to gather, heal, and fight for a freer world. We honor his legacy with endless gratitude and carry his lessons with us in every step we take toward collective freedom. With gratitude, Ashara, Christian, Ietef, Marcella, NiQueen, Sam, and Zandashe

Ashara concluded her residency with a research trip to Ontario to visit the last stop on the Underground Railroad, connecting her current curatorial and archival work to the freedom-seeking journeys of the past. This research continues to inform how AAFR nurtures art as a vehicle for remembrance and collective liberation.
