A participatory workshop and multimedia presentation by bryant terry
From the kitchen to the studio, the archive to the gallery, bryant terry’s interdisciplinary practice asks how creative work can make new worlds. Presented in conversation with "Excavating Uranus, A Psalm for Nyota Uhura", this participatory workshop and multimedia presentation draws on histories of the African diaspora to explore memory, time, and imagination across art, food, publishing, and social practice. Through conversation, reflection, and a cooking demonstration, terry considers how acts of making can transform inherited histories, landscapes, and everyday cultural practices into sites of connection and collective possibility. Moving between past, present, and future, the workshop invites participants to consider how what we inherit might become material for imagining and creating more just and abundant worlds.
Excavating Uranus, A Psalm for Nyota Uhura, is a group exhibition that utilizes African cosmologies to translate our inhabiting the past, present, and future simultaneously and the tools and songs needed for time travel. Curated by Ashara Ekundayo, the exhibition brings together the work of Sydney Cain, Ayana V. Jackson, Courtney Desiree Morris, and bryant terry.
